OVERVIEW

Set of Management and Physical measures consisted of designed programs and properly documented protocols that develop a barrier in order to reduce the risk of animal disease at farm/premises level by:

  1. Prevent disease agents from entering and establish in an area (or a populations) and,
  2. Control the disease agents from spreading to other areas (or other healthy populations).

To describe biosecurity in a simple way, it is consisted of 3 principle elements:

Step 1: Segregation

Creation and maintenance of barriers.

Step 2: Cleaning

Removal of contaminating materials by manual removal and detergent.

Step 3: Disinfection

Final polishing steps after cleaning.

Other than animal movements, the route of between-farm transmission of important animal diseases, like Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever, and Influenza A can be occurred via fomites (contaminated clothes, equipment, and vehicles). Usually this fomite transmission happened during farm-to-farm movement of personnel and vehicles (indirect contact), especially which come in close contact with animals, meat/milk/eggs, organs, body fluids, excretions and waste. We had offered solutions for

1.     Wheel dip and footwear disinfection station

    • FAM30 (Livestock use iodophor based disinfectants)

special formulated iodophor disinfectants that active in surface contaminated with organic matters. Recommended dilution 1:180 to 400 according to target pathogens.

2.    Vehicle & equipment cleaning and disinfections 

a. Soaking or foam cleaning with Shift at 1:150 dilution for 20 minutes.

      • Shift (Heavy Duty Detergent for livestock farm)

b. Foam disinfection with GPC-8 at 1:200 dilution, or

3. Quick disinfection of vehicle that appeared grossly clean with compound Peroxymonosulphate Powder ProteQ at 1:200 dilution.

4.    Personal Protective Equipment

More than 60% of human infectious diseases are shared with animals, including the newly emerging diseases such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and COVID-19. Alcohol as the common active ingredients for hand sanitizer, especially ethanol (ethyl alcohol) and iso-propanol/2-propanol (isopropyl alcohol) exhibits its antimicrobial activity via protein denaturation in the presence of water. CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US) recommended using an alcohol-based hand rubs with 60 to 95% alcohol for better compliance of hand hygiene practice.

1) Environmental biosecurity

Good compliance to biosecurity at farm level including frequent cleaning and disinfection of equipment and premises. Cleaning involved removal of organic matter and visible dirt from shed, equipment, and vehicles with detergents, which is the important steps that remove most of the pathogens that contaminate the surface and optimizing the efficacy of disinfectants. After cleaning is done, then followed by disinfection that will inactivate remaining pathogens on a cleaned surface.

8% of surfactants and patent glutaraldehyde based formulation, it is able to produce foam with foam lance, which give better coverage, prevent contaminated aerosol, and performing 99.99% killing action upon application.

  • FAM30 – Iodophor based foam disinfectant for livestock farm

This livestock iodophor disinfectant offers a 2 in 1 combinations of biosecurity solutions, which is able to perform cleaning and disinfection in single operation due to its high of surfactants (up to 24%). 

All of our cleaning and disinfectant products are not affected by hard water and biodegradable.

2) Feed biosecurity

Common bacterial pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella spp, as well as some viruses (such as contamination of feed ingredients by PED virus had demonstrated transboundary transmission risk at global level) can be survived in feed materials. Organic acids, especially short chain fatty acids are added to commercial feed as acidifier and feed sanitization to suppress growth of harmful microorganism. It has been suggested that blends of acids always have better efficacy of Salmonella reduction in feed, which is successfully demonstrated by inclusion of Orgacids in feed as Salmonella control program in both feedmill and farm level according to a recent farm trial done on the end of year 2020.

Orgacids, a fine granular blend of 6 types of organic and inorganic acids (minimum 36% acid), which consistently provides a stable and low pH that sanitize the feed and preventing it from recontamination. This product will be acidifying all the way, from feed to gut for better nutrient utilization and production performance.

3) Drinking Water biosecurity

Water is the most important nutrient for livestock as it is involved in most of the physiological process in body metabolism. However, water quality is the easiest overlook factor in livestock production by livestock producer and professionals, such as veterinarian. Recontamination of drinking water is always happened in the drinking water system regardless on water source. This is due to the drinking water will be flowing through a lengthy network, from reservoir tank, piping system, and nipple drinker before uptake by the animals. The common routes of drinking water recontamination are:

  1. Presence of moss and mud in the piping system due to lack of routine cleaning and disinfectant practice.
  2. Spore-forming bacteria from the air enter and replicate in the drinking system, resulted in increased of pathogen count in drinking water.
  3. Common practice of supplementing glucose, vitamins, electrolytes, amino acids, and adjuvants of medication and vaccine provide excellent nutrient sources for the pathogens, which later facilitate the formation of biofilm in the piping system.

The biofilm is the aggregates of microorganism embedded in matrix of self-produced extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). This slimy layer acts as the reservoir for pathogens by offering excellent protection from flushing, disseminating and contaminating flowing water with pathogens, damaging vaccine and medication, and reducing efficacy of antimicrobial drugs. Prolonged accumulation of biofilm will result in narrowing of the pipe diameter, slowing of water flow rate, increasing risk of pipeline blockage (trigger morbidity or mortality due to water deficiency), and causing corrosion. Biofilm is considered as the incubator for the pathogens via raising the pathogen count in drinking water, later lead to increased disease challenges and reduced feed conversion ratio.

Therefore, by adding acidifier especially free acids into drinking water system is able to maintain low pH value of drinking water, inhibit the growth pathogenic bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella sp., reduce the superficial tension of the biofilm then enable the degradation of the bio-slime material. Good quality of drinking water is able to guarantee healthier livestock, better production performance and disease resistance.

Formic 2.0 std contains high concentration of formic acids and its salt. Formic acid will dissociate in drinking water by releasing Hydrogen ion and reduce the pH value to 4.5, which at this pH most of the pathogens in drinking water are inactivated. In addition, due to its small molecular size, formic acid is able to diffuse through the cell wall of the pathogen and exert its killing action. The Sodium formate continues to exert the acidifying and antimicrobial action on the upper gastrointestinal tract of the animal, at the same time improve digestion at the foregut. Healthy livestock starts from healthy drinking water with Formic 2.0 std.
