Medium chain triglycerides (MCT) are rapidly hydrolysed compared to Long Chain Triglycerides (LCT). Medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) which are produced are then absorbed and metabolized to provide instant energy for neonatal animals. MCFA utilized directly by the enterocytes for energy, maintaining intestinal tissue integrity, increase villi length and crypt depth. MCFA is able to boost and enhance immunity in young animals. Many in vitro studies have shown MCFA is able to inactivate pathogenic bacteria, viruses and parasites. This is due to the penetration of MCFA into the cell wall and cytoplasmic membrane, which affects the membrane permeability and cause leakage. MCFA also disrupts bacterial enzyme activity and activates bacterial autolytic enzyme.
In Sunzen, we have Mamimune, which is an MCT based oral pump emulsion, consisting 40% of caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10).
Preweaning mortality and morbidity of neonates are a significant economic loss for the animal industry. Most common cause of preweaning mortality is energy insufficiency as they are unable to suckle due to lack of energy. Mamimune as an immediate energy supplement for new born animals, is able to help in this critical condition, providing the energy for them to suckle. With 1 to 2 pumps at birth, repeated every other day for 2 times or as necessary, Mamimune can help improve overall body condition, and boost immunity.
